What is this?
About me
What am I actually doing? Is it ‘about me’ in the sense that I should sell you my blog, or should I be telling you about how I pulled my shoulder the other day thanks to my aggressive floor-sweeping technique? As much as I’m sure you’re all interested in my day to day shenanigans, it’s probably better if I just explain what I’m doing.
My name’s Tom. Through a passion for writing and a surplus of boredom, I’ve decided to blog about my all-time favourite thing; photography
I’ve been photograph-ing for 5 years now, studying it at A-level for 2 years along with English Literature and Politics. If there’s one thing I’ve learned through my education, it’s that photography is vast. Very, very vast. From street and sport to Leica and landscapes, there’s something for everyone to become enriched in.
That being said, such specifications can become daunting. Professionals start talking about how medium format film is the purest way to shoot, and cannot be achieved without a Hasselblad and a £5,000 ring light. Meanwhile you’re sitting there with a £30 35mm you found at your Uncle’s house, not knowing how to even load the camera without exposing your film.
That’s where I come in. I’m not here to ‘gatekeep’ the photography community. It took me a year to be comfortable posting my own photos, so I understand why people are hesitant to start talking about the subject publicly. This blog is for everyone. I plan to explain every technical term I use, conduct pointless experiments, answer questions people have and create a safe space for anyone who wants to express their photographic interest without fear of being scared out of photography. Professional, amateaur, beginner: I will try to provide something for you all.
I do hope you stick around; you’re all welcome
